Born and raised in Indianapolis, IN and attended Indiana State University. Graduated in 1993 with a Bachelors in Fine Art. My influences have been from the early Post-Modern masters (Jackson Pollock, Rothko, Franz Kline, William De Kooning, Joseph Allbers, Aleksandr Rodchenko). The early movement that swept through America had an impact that is still influencing artists. I prefer to use non-traditional items to paint with. In doing so I feel that I can create new textures and form that otherwise would not be available to me. My works are derived from the physical environment living in Florida and my personal experiences.

Artists Statement:
As an artist there is still much to discover, I am a student but yet I am a teacher. The time left to discover is a process that is never ending and one of self discovery and self exploration. The mediums may be the same but the message is not. - RLF
