How to Clean Oil Brushes:
When working with oils cleaning brushes is the part I hate most. I have found it best to clean them
immediately after use. Often I let them harden and I end up throwing the brushes away. Start by removing all excess paint from the brush with a old t-shirt/rag. Then drip the brushes into oderless mineral oil or turpentine, pushing firmly moving all extra paint toward the tipof the brush. Repeat this process until the brush wipes clean. Then its good old elbow grease, use warm water and soap and wash the bristles until clean.
Recycleing for ART I use everything I can to hold my paint, water or turpentine. Any jars or plastic bottles will work, this saves them from ending up in the trash or a landfill.
Clean & Reuse Turpentine : Pour used mineral & turpentine into a glass jar with lid (air tight) and leave in a cool dark place until the paint has settled to the bottom. Drain the clean (clear looking) turps into a new jar & seal (avoid pouring back into the main bottle if you want to keep it cleaner). Wipe out the paint sludge with a rag and let dry before throwing away. The paint on the bottom makes a great Grey or base paint.
Purchase only good quality brushes, as they are easier to clean & last longer and are a better investment in the long run.
