Call to Artist - Tampa Bay Business Committee for the Arts,

CALL FOR ENTRIES

To: Bay area gallery owners, art centers and artists

From: Melinda N. Chavez, Executive Director

Date: May 29, 2007

The Tampa Bay Business Committee for the Arts, Inc. ("TBBCA") will present its thirteenth annual Business in the Arts Awards Gala on Wednesday, October 24, 2007. The TBBCA will commission a Tampa Bay artist to create a work of art to honor each award winner. We are pleased to offer this opportunity for local artists to share in a partnership with the local business community, in furtherance of the TBBCA's core mission.

We invite you to submit a proposal for work in the medium of your choice (including two-dimensional as well as three-dimensional media), taking into consideration the guidelines set forth below. Our judges will include local art professionals from a variety of disciplines. They will be asked to award the commission based upon the artistic quality of the proposal, not upon whether it looks like an "award". The selected artwork and artist will be featured in all Gala marketing materials, including the invitation, advertisements and program. The BCA Awards Gala is a high-profile event that is attended by over 450 people each year and gives outstanding exposure to the artist chosen to create the award pieces. The BCA welcomes submittals from both fine craftsmen and fine artists. We are terribly proud of the artists we have featured in recent years. I look forward to receiving your submittal.

To participate in the selection process, please follow the guidelines below:

· The commission will consist of nine (9) works in the medium of your choice, one of which will be given to each honoree.

· The works must be similar, as in an original series, or a limited edition. The TBBCA prefers that the edition or series be used exclusively for the award. The works may be existing or newly created. The works may be either two or three-dimensional.

· The TBBCA will pay the artist a total of $4,000 for the commission, inclusive of framing or mounting costs.

· The TBBCA will feature the artist in promotional information distributed by it in connection with the Gala.

· If the nature of the artwork permits, a TBBCA member company will display the works of art for approximately one month prior to the program, which is tentatively scheduled for Wednesday, October 24, 2007.

· The TBBCA requests that the selected artist be present for recognition at the awards program (as our guest).

· Your proposal should include autobiographical information and drawings, maquettes, photos, and/or slides of the work you wish to submit. Representative and formal examples of your work are strongly suggested.

· Submission of your proposal must be made by noon on Friday, July 13, 2007. The proposal can be mailed to the TBBCA at P.O. Box 559, Tampa, FL, 33601 or delivered to the TBBCA office at 633 N. Franklin Street, Suite 735 in downtown Tampa. For directions to the TBBCA office, please call (813) 221-ARTS

· The awards committee will make a selection by the end of July.

· At least one completed original of the selected work will be due by September 3, 2007 and final delivery will be due by October 10, 2007.

· Please remember that the more detailed and clear your proposal is, the more likely your work is to be chosen. A good proposal can sell your work effectively and encourage the judges to look at your work positively.

· Please note that the decision of the judges is strongly influenced by the quality of the work submitted. This includes framed works of art or three dimensional pieces as well as slides, sketches or other samples. If you want to be seriously considered, quality of presentation is crucial.

We encourage your participation in this selection process. This program is a wonderful opportunity for an artist to receive recognition for his or her work and exposure to business leaders who believe in the importance of business support for the arts.

DEADLINE TO SUBMIT A PROPOSAL: Friday, July 13, 2007
