My photographs tell stories by presenting a unique and different perspective on people, places, and things we see every day and take for granted….” Photographer Shelby Boggs seeks to share captured images through the medium of film in much the same way that writers, painter, poets, and musicians seek to evoke feelings and reactions through their respective media. Currently living in Tampa, Florida, Shelby is a freelance photographer who runs her own photography business and the Tampa Artist Emporium. As owner of the Tampa Artist Emporium, she strives to bring high quality art to the Tampa Bay Area, while fostering the work of local artists. She also joins with various arts organizations to actively promote art education and develop community awareness and participation in the arts. When she is not running the Emporium, she is photographing weddings, events, and portraits. She is the official photographer for the Red Baron Flying Team. Shelby has had several gallery shows in the Tampa Bay area and her works hang on the walls of several prestigious businesses. In addition, she has generously donated several of her pieces to help raise money for noteworthy causes, such as Art for life, Academy Prep Center of Tampa, The Spring, Susan G. Komen Brest Cancer Awareness, as well as other small local charities.
Shelby has two great passions in life, travel and photography. Her life has led her on the usual twisting roads and forked paths that characterize most people's lives. She believes that travel broadens one’s view of the world and it has allowed her to witness and record the amazing grace and beauty life offers, as well as allowing her to discover new ideas, experience unique cultures and learn from diverse beliefs and opinions. Working in both color and black & white, her photojournalistic style is modern and distinctive with a timeless, classical edge. Shelby views the art of photography as a subtractive process, a distilling of reality into a personal vision. Utilizing tools of modern photography – different film stocks, filters, digital enhancement – Shelby tries to capture in an image the emotions she felt at the moment she tripped the camera's shutter.
