Janet Aponte is an oil painter living in Palm Harbor, where she has an art studio in her home. She began exhibiting her work in the Fall of 2004, and has been steadily emerging into the local art scene since that time. Influenced by Georgia O'Keeffe and Mark Rothko, Janet's style combines vibrancy of color with simplicity of form, often focusing on flowers as a favorite theme."Color is the perfect vechicle of emotional expression, speaking a universal language of its own", she comments. Although her first love is oil painting, Janet has recently exhibited a series of charcoal and pastels, entitled "Women of Purple", which honors the personal dignity of multicultural women everywhere. One of her own goals is to encourage others to paint, so they can know that experience for themselves. Speaking furthur on this topic, she says, " we encourage children to paint and hang their pictures on our refridgerators or walls, never belittling their efforts. We need to do this for ourselves. It takes courage to paint, but the rewards are worth it." Janet is a registered nurse who has specialized in caring for terminally ill patients for many years. She considers herself both a nurse and an artist, and believes in nurturing the artistic drive in herself and in others.
