As a figurative artist, I have painted the classical nude using watercolor, charcoal, and acrylic as my mediums throughout my life. I have an innate instinct for painting the male and female forms, as I believe this is attributed to growing up in the fitness industry along side of my father. My paint brushes, however, weren't always in my hand. The rigor of writing academically and professionally submerged my vivid creativity to paint.
After graduating from the University of South Florida with a Master of Arts degree in communication, I recognized that personal narrative could easily occupy a place on canvas allowing me to express various aspects of my emotions and feelings in an equally meaningful genre. Hence, as a trained writer, the notion of using a brush instead of a pen was a comfortable transition (although, never entirely surrendering my pen) because I could allow story to emerge through art.
Thus, my paintings reflect the depths of emotional experiences, revealing mysteries that animate all of our lives. For me, the nude landscape became an infinite terrain for expression.
I use vibrant hues and bold strokes to represent both the female and male subjects. These aesthetic effects create sensual dynamics and physicality to their forms, while invoking one’s own personal experience. Figurative art is dependent on lines, shape, color, light, and emotion to create visual impact. Each of these elements has significant value and evokes an intimate voice that speaks to a myriad of interpretations.
