|
Bérangère Kinsey was born and raised in northern France. As a child, she was already fascinated by the patterns she could create on paper with squares of different colors. Growing up in one of the richest countries in terms of Art treasures and history, her passion for museums, architecture and aesthetics blossomed.
She moved to the United States at the age of 16 and received a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree from the University of Georgia. She practiced interior design and architecture for 10 years in Los Angeles and Atlanta. Bérangère is a self-taught mosaicist. Using computer technology, she is able to translate existing images into mosaics. Her creations are a sort of porcelain pointillism in which dots of paints or pixels are replaced with ceramic square tesserae. This art form is the ideal combination between her favorite media and painting style. She finds inspiration in the Impressionist, Post and Neo-Impressionist art movements - the roots of pointillism. Artist Statement "I look at mosaic making as a metaphor for life. Each choosen tile equates each decision one makes in life. Decisions we struggle with, decisions we make absentmindedly, decisions that seem so insignificant or that are life-changing. In the end, one always hopes to step away from the work, take a look back on one's life, and be pleased with it. Sometimes surprised by it. Despite the imperfections and the unforseen, or maybe because of them, be humbled by it. And as a mosaicist, just as in life, my wish is to feel I have created and achieved something worthy and beautiful." Member of SAMA (Society of American Mosaic Artists).
